He is just a little boy named
Mike.
His Mom drops him at my cross walk each
day.
Then she watches until he gets into the
school.
Mike hardly ever smiles or has much
to say.
Each afternoon Mike waits for
his Mom.
I watch over all the kids as I would
my own.
But I can't be their guardian angel
once they are gone.
God then must watch over
them as they go home.
I remember one
morning just a few days ago.
When Mike was so
very late getting to school.
I saw him
limping and ask if he was all right.
Then his
reply to me was, "I just fell
down!"
Today Mike did not come to
school.
I saw his picture when I turned on
the news.
The newsman told the terrible story
of how
Mike's Dad beat him and his Mom in a
drunken rage.
Mike is in a hospital with
bruises and a broken arm.
They say he will
soon be okay, but I know those
Many scars
deep down inside will take years to heal.
And
now he can no longer say, "I just fell down!"
Oh Dear God! Please help me to
understand,
Why does this happen to children
everyday?
God I pray, watch over little Mike
and all those
Children who today will say, "I
just fell down!"
